Casey Conroy
Holistic Dietitian, Nutritionist, Yoga Teacher

Master of Nutrition and Dietetics

Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) - IN PROCESS

Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours)

Yoga Teacher 350RYT; Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga Teacher; Fertility Yoga Teacher; Certified AcroYoga® Instructor; Zenthai Flow Teacher

Member ACNEM, AIDNSoc, ASDAH, DAA, HAES Australia

Casey has been an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist since 2012, and a Yoga Teacher since 2006. Her passion is helping women to free themselves from body dissatisfaction, disordered eating, and weight preoccupation. She also loves working with pregnant women, new mums and their bubs. She believes that we can learn a great deal about how to best care for ourselves from observing nature's cycles, from ancient traditions, and from listening to our bodies.

In her work she draws upon her parallel life as a yoga teacher of 14 years; her childhood growing up exploring forests, picking bush foods, watching her Chinese-Malay mum incorporate Traditional Chinese Medicine into everyday cooking and life, and exploring remote corners of Australian wilderness with her meditation-addicted dad; her past life as a veterinarian and environmental researcher; and her lived experience with and full recovery from disordered eating.

Her practise is strongly aligned with the Health at Every Size® paradigm. Her treatment draws upon additional studies in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, yoga psychology, the Non‐Diet Approach, Motivational Interviewing and Art Therapy. A passionate holistic dietitian, she has studied multiple naturopathic subjects at tertiary level and has additional training in traditional herbal medicine, nutritional medicine, Chinese medicine, and Ayurveda. Casey loves to integrate the effective treatment of eating disorders and weight concern with counselling, evidence-based natural medicine, earth-honouring traditions, and mind-body modalities such as yoga.

In her spare time Casey loves to write – she is a feat
ure columnist for Living Now magazine and an avid blogger. She enjoys painting, napping, weaving, growing food, making herbal medicines, smoke cleansing the hell out of her home, 80’s glam metal, outdoor yoga, campfires, travel, and exploring forest trails with her husband Andreas and two young children.

If you can't already tell, I’m not your typical dietitian!

  • I loooove markets. Especially the ones with crystal stalls, rainbow flags, and fresh donuts. You can find me on Sundays hanging out at farmer's markets, sniffing produce to suss out the freshest stuff!
  • Calorie counting is so 1990's. I will never ever ask you to count anything (unless I am helping you recover from a restrictive eating disorder, in which case calorie counting may be involved to help you in getting enough to eat).
  • I have worked through my own issues around food and body image and I know how debilitating that dark hole can be. I use “non-diet” approaches (including intuitive eating, and Health at Every Size®) to help you to nourish your whole self - and that goes beyond food. Way beyond.
  • My fridge is always stocked with butter (yes, butter), dark chocolate, funky fermented concoctions, miso, and fruit bread. I love my fruit bread.
  • I hate the word dietitian, even though I am one (I also loathe the word diet)
  • I'm a simple home cook - rather than using 40 exotic ingredients and just as many pots and pans to create a meal... I believe in single-saucepan wonders that deliver maximum nutrient density and flavour in the minimum amount of time (like, 15 minutes max.)
  • For a black thumb like me, growing my own organic food has been one of my biggest accomplishments in life!
  • I talk to plants. My fave is Mugwort, but Elder is fast catching up. I'm also a huge herb nerd and love wildcrafting and making my own herbal medicines.
  • I'm a weight-lifting convert. After years avoiding the gym I now love lifting heavy things and the physical and mental strength it brings. Also, anything involving play, connection with others, creative movement, fabulous 80s (OK and some early 90s) music, yoga, or bushwalking.
  • I live on a bush homestead in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland of Australia with my husband, Andreas and our two young kids: Archie (5), and Kairi (3).

What is an accredited practising dietitian?

Casey is an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) and Accredited Nutritionist (AN). This means Casey is suitably qualified to give expert nutrition and diet assessment and advice to individuals and groups, as well as rebates to patients under Medicare, DVA and most private health funds. The APD and AN symbols are your guarantee that Casey's tertiary training course is accredited by the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA), and that she meets their ongoing Continuing Professional Development standards.

As an APD, Casey also upholds a high standard of professional conduct, abiding by the DAA Code of Professional Conduct and Statement of Ethical Practice. It also provides you with an avenue to pursue a complaint about Casey's professional conduct – be assured this is insurance you will never need to use.
